I haven’t installed any laminate for a few months now. I have installed a lot of floors and when I wasn’t installing flooring I was building homes. I was the owner of a home construction company.

Building homes was fun but has a lot of added stress. Also if you are a subcontractor and install flooring you can make more money than some builders. You see your money is more guaranteed, and if you work hard you can cash in. Working hard is they key in any business especially an industry filled with labor. Get some good dependable workers, pay them fairly and then work your butt off.

Don’t waste money, be at work when you should be plus a few extra hours each day. Plan on 10 hour days minimum. Be honest, and do good quality work. Work fast, and you will have more work than you can handle. Don’t add other crews faster than you can handle. This is always a temptation, but usually comes back to bite you. Manage your growth and manage your quality.

Reader: Can i install laminate flooring over left over tile mortar?

I have removed my ceramic tile in the kitchen and there is still tile mortar (glue) on the cement foundation. It is ridiculously hard to scrape it off. Is it possible to install the laminate over the mortar or do i need to find a better way to remove it? If i do have to remove the mortar is there a easier way then using a scraper?

As long as the glue from the tile isn’t sticking up and creating bumps. You want a pretty flat surface to begin working with and if that is the case you should be able to install the laminate flooring right over the top saving you hours of miserable work. (more…)

Can I Install Laminate Flooring Myself?

Often I am asked if someone other than a professional installer is really capable of installing laminate flooring such as Pergo TrafficMaster.

I often reply if you can change a light bulb and cut a piece of bread than you can install laminate flooring. If you take your time and use the proper tools laminate flooring installation is easy.
